About

Kabu and the Seeds in the Wind is an animated fantasy series powered by Japanese folklore, AI, and a little turnip-farming escapism. What started as a joke about corporate burnout between two friends became a sprawling creative experiment—combining handmade storytelling with cutting-edge tools.

What is this?

This is a devlog. A story lab. A behind-the-scenes look at what might be the world’s first AI-assisted animated series—from concept to character design, scripts to soundtracks. We're building every piece in public, experimenting as we go.

Who’s making it?

We’re two tech-world escapees—one in Tokyo, one in L.A.—building a bridge between worlds. This project started as a creative outlet, but it quickly became something deeper: a way to reconnect with the wonder we found living in Japan.

We’ve wandered shrine paths, gotten lost in mountain fog, and shared more conbini meals than we can count. Now we’re pouring that firsthand experience into a world shaped by real folklore, real places, and real emotional stakes—reimagined through the lens of storytelling and AI.

Our goal? To share that magic with a wider audience—and to prove that small teams with big ideas can still make something weird, beautiful, and meaningful.

Why AI?

Because we’re not animators. We can’t draw. And we both have full-time jobs in tech.

But we do have a clear vision of the show we want to make—one filled with folklore, friendship, cursed turnip heads, and a touch of magic. For the first time, AI tools make that dream feel possible.

We’re not using AI to replace the magic. We’re using it to unlock it—to prototype faster, experiment freely, and bring our weird little world to life on our own terms. This isn’t about perfection. It’s about momentum. We’re just building the show we want to watch—and finally, we can.
